Denzel's New Movie Is Gay Gay Gay Everywhere!
Now in theaters, Feminista swears you won't care that it's two-and-a-half hours long. It's just that good!
The movie world is all abuzz because thee Denzel Washington is part of the cast of Gladiator II, the sequel to the popular 2000 film Gladiator. While too much of the discussion has been criticism of his casting, some of us are just excited to see the veteran actor in a role that reminds everyone that he is one of the greatest actors of all time. I loved the original film and when I learned they were making a sequel, nearly 25 years later, I was a bit skeptical. What was the storyline going to be? Was it going to continue the original story or focus on entirely different characters? Still, I watched the trailer and decided I definitely had to see and I am so glad that I did!
To refresh your memory, Gladiator is the story of Maximus, a Roman general who was forced into slavery after a corrupt Roman emperor slaughtered his family. Maximus was an amazing soldier and his fighting skills were top-notch. He ultimately died, but not before defeating the Emperor and freeing Rome. Gladiator II picks up over a decade later and corrupt twin Emperors, Geta and Caracalla rule Rome. They’re expanding the Roman Empire by sending the army into places like Northern Africa. This is where we meet Hanno, a fierce warrior ready to fight against the Roman army and defend his people against invasion and enslavement. Unfortunately, he loses his wife and his freedom, and off to Rome he goes to become a gladiator. Revenge is on his heart and mind and he won’t stop until he avenges his wife’s death and frees himself.
It’s hard to get into this without spoiling it, and since I want you to see this, I’m going to avoid ruining it for you. There is a major plot twist that if I gave it away now, might make the development of the storyline less enjoyable. There are direct connections to the original film, though, so if you’re hoping for a continuation, you’ll get it and it is fleshed out pretty well.
