An old work colleague and I had a major falling out a few years ago and they told me they would ruin me in business and tell everyone not to work with me. It has hurt me a couple of times with potential jobs. I just found out that this person has only months left to live presumably based on their illness and I am relieved that I won't have to deal with that badmouthing anymore.
