I am not the best at gift giving, so here are the top five gifts for other people to get me. And a simple tip to make your present the most beloved one they get this year - guaranteed!
I think it’s far better to give the right, personal gift at a random time than a gift you feel pressured to buy for a holiday and just get something for the sake of giving a gift. Plus who’s going to say no to a gift a month or two or more after the birthday or holiday? It might be more special because it’s not sandwiched among other gifts.
My friend is celebrating turning 50 with 5 parties over a year and a half and celebrates half birthdays and I love that.
I love that. She is now my birthday idol and I might just emulate that – even for an off birthday like my next one, 63. Because who cares whether it's a round number or not? I love this whole attitude.
I love the idea of a special 63rd birthday, and you should absolutely do it!! 🎉 Sixty-three of your favorite songs. Ninth celebration of 7 lucky spins around the sun. You could really make it whatever you'd like. ❤️ Life is short and should be enjoyed (and celebrated) fully.
BTW, you may already be aware of it, but there's a Michael Apted series called Seven Up. He followed a group of kids, starting at age seven. Every 7 years, he filmed a new documentary about them (14 up, 21 up, etc.). I think 42 up was the final one I watched, but the series is still going. Instead of "up", maybe a "7" series where you focus on your life in 7 year intervals through your 63rd birthday? I'm waaay to excited about your birthday, and I hope it's a good one. 🎊
I have watched all of those installments of that series, yes! And this is a fantastic idea! I didn't even realize 63 was a multiple of seven and just had to ask my daughter. So yes, I would love to do this exercise!!
Hi Jane! I upgraded my sub to annual when y'all announced the free tee deal. I don't think I've ever submitted my address or anything. Is there anything I need to do?
Yes, you should have gotten an email asking you for all your details. Check your junk mail - it would've come within the last few weeks. And if you don't have it, come back here in the comments and tell me and I'll figure it out so that you can pick your size, give your shipping details and get your shirt!
Thank YOU for the support! I'm so glad you got them. Get a good photo when you both get yours, because I'm going to do eventually a celebratory (of you!) gallery or something. Yay!
My 6 year old demanded a light pink T shirt with bright pink writing on it out of nowhere today. She has never seen these. I think it’s a sign!
She is sooooo sassy! Isn't it wild how many generations now have been affected by that publication/attitude? And she was clearly born with it!

These are the best ideas! Believe me, I will do them all. Thank you!!

I don’t think I can tag her in the comments but she wrote about it here. I wish I could be at all 5 celebrations! https://open.substack.com/pub/funkybrownchick/p/why-im-celebrating-my-50th-in-5-countries?r=cal&utm_medium=ios
Thanks for sharing it. ❤️ Looking forward to celebrating with you in NY and, hopefully, at least one other destination too. ❤️
At 51, I am as excited about this shirt as I would have been when I was 16. 🙌
I love hearing that so much! And I feel the same way. Let's keep that excitement level for many many many years to come.

Sigh. This made me nostalgic for my Blackberry. It was so cool, and I felt so cool just holding the damn thing.
Right? I liked how chunky they were. They felt good and solid in your hands.
Thank you for this, Jane! I just bought one for me and one as a gift for my friend!
