I read something about how this specific lower belly bloat that comes with menopause is a healthy self protective device your body uses to generate hormones that you are losing. Or something like that! Does that help at all? If not, there is a product I swear by For hot flashes and may help that also and it's over-the-counter called Estrovers by metagenics . I think this is where I say that I do not recommend products or that you have to see your doctor or some kind of disclaimer.(And I did have one friend whose doctor told her not to take it because she had had breast cancer.) But I've taken it for and given it to many friends who have been seriously helped by it. Love you!
Yes - make sure it's from the metagenics store there because I've gotten some weird, fake counterfeit vitamins through Amazon way more than once. Good luck!
I know it sounds like a huge hassle - I resisted for years - but separating food and drink by 30 minutes helps my digestion so much. I used to get bloated whenever I ate before I started.
It doesn’t always have to be 30 precisely - like, I can safely have a bit of juice and chips at the same time, but I’m not going to chug a bottle of water and then eat a huge meal.
I have endometriosis, so this has been happening to my body since my early 20s. Even when I was underweight, there would be times my stomach stuck out so much, I would get asked when I was due. Once while wearing my favorite dress a famous French lady once told me I needed to suck my stomach in (I never wore that dress again.)
I’ve tried all of the things: no gluten, no dairy, spearmint tea, supplements too numerous to count, etc. Now nearing my 40s, multiple endo surgeries behind me that have added a bunch of scars to my round belly, I’ve just accepted it. This is the body I have. I get clothes tailored, I dropped big bucks on a one piece swimsuit that looks great on me, and I don’t bother with pants that make me feel bad if I’m bloating.
Dear writer, I hope battling the bloat long term this isn’t the case for you and this body phase resolves itself to your satisfaction. If not, though, I wish you a shorter road than mine to making peace with it. Xx
Jes I am sorry you've had to deal with endometriosis. I used to have fibroids, went through 2 myomectomies and then finally a partial hysterectomy to make it stop. You have such a good attitude about it all and I appreciate your advice! I l also love your tip about getting clothes tailored and I'm going to try that out!
Oh, girl, this peri-men food baby phenomenon is so real. A couple of things that help me with the lower belly bloat.
1. I know you don’t like exercise, but a gentle walk after a meal does seem to give a sluggish system a boost. Plus you can catch up on a podcast or be the random lady in the neighborhood who walks the same route three times a day. This is not a power walk or prancersize effort, I’m talking about a 15 minute gentle stroll while someone else does the dishes.
2. Digestive enzymes. I forget to take them most of the time, but when I DO take them, my bloated subsides in less time. I get them at Whole Foods.
3. What not to do? I’ve noticed that the bloat is worse when:
A. I lie down or recline after a meal - fastest way to immediately look like I’m having twins
B. I finish my meal with sweets - sugar is my enemy once it gets past my taste buds. Sometimes it is worth it though, ammiright?
C. I snack in the day. For a while, I thought it might help to have little snacks throughout the day instead of three normal meals. Look, we all make mistakes!

Yes, I would like that recommendation please--can I find it on Amazon?

Traditional Chinese medicine helped me A LOT
I used to get acupuncture which oddly made me a lot more regular. Maybe I should go back to that. Thanks for the advice!

I am willing to try that —thank you!
