Glad to have your words and those of the people you value back in front of my eyeballs! And if you could tell Michael Stipe I think he's the bee's knees, I'd appreciate it.
You did! As a teen in Texas, back when the dinosaurs roamed, through Sassy I discovered different ways of being in the world. And that being a serious feminist was entirely compatible with fun & joy. It truly was life altering. Jane brought me joy in grad school (at U of Chicago!).
Finding out about AJPT today just made my entire month! I too was a young Sassy reader and still have most of them. During the pandemic, I took them out and randomly read a few articles and they held up incredibly well. Sassy came into my life at a time when I needed it and I think AJPT is going to be the same - my body is changing again and I’m looking around trying to figure out the world around me and how I best fit in it. I’m looking forward to reading EVERY post!
Will you please please keep commenting (or write me however you want to, but comments are where I generally live.) to let me know what you think of AJPT? Your opinion means a lot to me, having been with me this whole long time. Thank you for finding me here and giving it another chance!
I will never get over Sassy and especially Christina Kelly’s writing…I wish I could remember the title but there was an early story about a girl in prison and I still think about it. So glad to discover this sub stack, like so glad!!
Christina will probably remember – I agree too! Her writing kills me every time I read it and that's been for almost 40 years now.
I'm thinking of one in those early issues that Catherine Gysin did a piece where she visited a teenage girl in prison and the detail I remember is that she was concerned that her underwire bra was going to set off the metal detector. Do you remember that?
plus! i am so glad there are comments, because nobody i know knows Jane!! i just sent a hysterical message to one of my groupchats about how Jane just launched another site and the headlines are soo xojaney (I WAS BODY ODOUR TARGETED AT SOULCYCLE.... auuughhghh SO PERFECT 👌👌👌 👌👌) at least you can share in my excitement!!!
This makes me insanely happy and feeling like I’ll have another guiding light in this next phase of life - just like Sassy was in my teen years. I still have all my Sassy magazines (and some Dirts!). It’s hard to overstate how important that magazine was in my development as a human. Thank you for continuing to make space for these stories!
I have been talking to Lew (Mark Lewman) about writing for us here and Spike sent me the most amazing photos of us from the 90's just the other day. And I love that you have those because I don't. Xo
Omg! You made my damn day. I had and read (multiple times) every single issue of Sassy. I would not be as freakin’ rad as I am today (if I do say so myself, lol) if I had gone the Seventeen/YM/whatever route instead. Now I have a 16-year-old daughter who listens to Hole and Bikini Kill, so I did OK, didn’t I? 😎 I used to love the in-parentheses writer’s comments. And Christina Kelly is back too?! Love you all
Jane! This is sooo exciting. I’m a writer/author—all that crap. I emailed you today to throw my hat in the ring for a writing op. Can’t wait to hear from you. Xo, Jessie ;) - jessiekanzer.com
Hello @JessieKanzer! If you send me your email addy to vanessa@anotherjaneprattthing.com, I will work with you on considering your pitches! Looking forward to hearing from you:)
Thanks! Idk if what I submitted is too “literary,” which is sort of the genre I write in. I just finished @CAT MARNELL’s memoir (ahhmazing!) & feel like I should resubmit to you all differently, a la “After 2 Babies, My Husband’s Penis Is Still Too Big for My Vag” 🤣 All I can say Jane is I would LOVE to work with/for you & hope to hear back from @Vanessa K. De Luca! Ty! xo
I love that Cat is halfway around the world and my first like on this post. I love you, too, Cat!
And if no one else is going to comment on my posts, then I'll just do it here myself. Hee hee hee hee
I love YOU!!!
Awwwwwww
It's amazing to me how you continue to reinvent yourself and respect must be paid for that!
Same with you! And you know I could NOT be doing this particular reinvention without you, so thank you for all of it!
I’m so excited this is happening. Sassy changed my life!
Sassy changed ALL our lives.

Oh hi, my old pal!
Abby!!!

Xoxo Jane you just rule the school and always have 💖💪💖
Thank you! I deeply love you, David! That sounded more sexual than I meant it.
hahaha and I love you even more for that !
Glad to have your words and those of the people you value back in front of my eyeballs! And if you could tell Michael Stipe I think he's the bee's knees, I'd appreciate it.
We’ve missed you Jane Pratt. ❤️ from a Sassy & Jane subscriber.
I have missed you too! And it looks like I raised you well, Ms. PhD
I am not making fun, I am damn serious

Thank you for making my whole day - and making me laugh with "when the dinosaurs roamed". Hahaha

I remember that!
Amazing recall - both of us!
Oh maybe in my muddled memory I confused those stories - I wish my teenage self had the foresight to keep all my issues!

I love love love the comments too, so I'll be seeing you here a lot, horse! And I'm so glad that you get my weird sensibilities xo

Amazing! Speaking of the dirt magazine crew,
I have been talking to Lew (Mark Lewman) about writing for us here and Spike sent me the most amazing photos of us from the 90's just the other day. And I love that you have those because I don't. Xo
So glad you are here Jane 🌸
There are too few people who shine a light on things that some people don't want to talk about. You make a difference in so many lives.
Substack is a perfect home for 'Another Jane Pratt Thing'.
I agree! My new home at Substack is so seriously lovely and filled with good people. Like you! Thanks for being here
So kind
Thank you 🙏

You did STELLAR with the daughter. I'm so glad we are back together here again too.
Go Jane! so hyped for this.

Beyond these comments, I mean
Ha! It could also be my first critique—my writing is just layers upon layers of comments (but, like, on life)… thank you!
